Título
SPONTANEOUS REATTACHMENT OF SEROUS RETINAL DETACHMENT DUE TO CHOROIDAL OSTEOMA IN A 11-YEAR-OLD-CHILD
Objetivo
To show a spontaneous reattachment of a serous retinal detachment in choroidal osteoma in a 11-year-old-child
Relato do Caso
K.A.S., 11 years old, male, previously healthy, with low vision in the left eye (OS) and no other associated complaints. Deny trauma event. Deny systemic or ocular comorbidities. At the ophthalmologic examination: visual acuity in the right eye (OD) 20/20 and OS 20/70, biomicroscopy unremarkable, normal fundoscopy in OD and OS presence of a well delimited yellowish lesion at the posterior pole near the upper temporal arch with perimacular involvement. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) revealed serous detachment of sensorineural retina in OS. Ocular ultrasound showed a meridian lesion with high reflectivity from 3 to 5 hours, suggesting choroidal osteoma in OS. Patient was conducted conservatively for about two years later with spontaneous improvement of visual acuity, 20/30-2 in OS. Reattachment of a serous retinal detachment is shown in the same eye in OCT.
Conclusão
Choroidal osteoma is a rare but benign entity that usually affects young adults. Serous detachment of the sensorineural retina may be cause low vision in some patients. OCT is a importante tool to diagnose and follow-up these complications. Our patient showed a spontaneous reattachment of a serous retinal detachment in choroidal osteoma and important vision improvement.
